Shelly is a native of Chesapeake and attended Deep Creek High school as did her mom and all her mother’s siblings. She attended ODU and graduated in 1997 with a B.S. in Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice. Throughout college and law school, Mrs. Wood worked part time with local attorneys as a legal assistant in the areas of family and criminal law.
Shelly attended Regent University School of Law and graduated in 2001. In law school, Mrs. Wood competed on the mock trial team and served as an officer for the American Bar Association. In her 3rd year, she obtained a 3rd year practice license and practiced as an intern with the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office.
After passing the bar exam, her career began as a Public Defender for the City of Norfolk in 2002 handling misdemeanor and felony and appeal cases. Shelly went into private practice in January 2004 doing family law including serving as a Guardian ad litem on custody matters and served as court appointed counsel for indigent defendants.
Shelly opened the office in July 2006 and continued work in family law and criminal defense with a goal of fulfilling her dream of having her own law practice but still being an active parent for her children. The majority of her practice is concentrated in Chesapeake. However, she does travel to all cities in the Hampton Roads area including Hampton, Newport News and the Eastern Shore.
Shelly is married with 3 active boys. In her spare time, Shelly is member of the King’s Daughters Infinity Circle (an organization that develops and hosts fundraisers to raise money for the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters). Shelly also has a Crossfit Level 1 Training Certificate, enjoys coaching and training in Crossfit, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
